Basic Information about the Network

International railway line:

  • Vrbnica – Bar;
  • Podgorica – Bajze.
Regional railway line:
  • Nikšić – Podgorica.

The total length of the network is 325.97 km.
  • Of that, 248.6 km are operational lines.
  • and 77.21 km of station tracks.

The line is classified as D4 ― with a permissible axle load of 22.5 tons, or 8 tons per meter.

Profile of the Vrbnica–Bar Railway


The length of the railway within Montenegro is 168.16 km.
The entire railway is electrified with a single-phase 25 kV, 50 Hz system.
The minimum curve radius is 300 m, while the maximum gradient is 25‰.
Official stations on the line

  • nine stations,
  • eight junctions
  • and 19 stops.
The major stations are:
  • Bar Station (15 tracks)
  • Podgorica Station (13 tracks)
  • Bijelo Polje Station (7 tracks)
The following structures have been built on the railway:
  • 108 bridges (92 concrete and 16 steel) with a total length of 7.9 km.
  • 106 tunnels with a total length of 51.5 km.
  • 14 galleries with a total length of 392 m.
  • 272 culverts under the railway.
  • 45 km of retaining and facing walls.
